Thoughts on John 10

John 10:1-13 Jesus is talking in speech that the common man can follow and understand. Laying a foundation of spiritual truth that overlays with common knowledge. The first part is like saying water is wet. The crowd knows that's how sheep act. But to the Pharisees with their high and mighty, our hands can't get dirty, you are below us attitude can't see (pun intended) and understand. Jesus then expands on the foundation that He is the Door, the entrance, the way to GOD. He even states in plain language that he gives up his life for the sheep. I think that verses 12-13 are a jab at the Pharisees and a reminder of where priorities should lay. We have to be cautious of the hired hand that is in ministry for the perks, glory, money, etc as they will bolt at the first sign of trouble. I think it is also a reminder that our faith is to be in Jesus and not man. John 10:14-21 He KNOWS us. If that isn't a humbling thought I don't know what is. Sometimes I feel I don...

Thoughts on John 9

John 9:1-12 I think that we forget that Jesus just escaped a mob of Pharisees at this point and his disciples, I wouldn't say the 12 necessarily, start with the same air of self righteousness ask what is in any culture a rude question. You have to hear the exasperation in Jesus' voice at this point. I mean seriously. There is an entire book about a man who was only humbled and brought to his lowest level so that GOD could have all the glory. I would be hard pressed to believe that they haven't heard the story of Job. Then again how many times have we looking in the mirror (GOD's Word) and forget the manner of man we are (deprived sinners). I would agree with Jeremy in that the day and night are metaphorical and not literal. It is interesting that he didn't just speak the man's vision back into existence but used the dust of the ground from where man came to make a mask. I would also note that the temple and the pool while next to each other aren't super clos...

Blame Game

In this morning’s Bible reading I was in Genesis 3 and as I’m reading and trying to pay attention to a section that I have read or heard what feels like a thousand times. 1. Now the serpent was more crafty than any other beast of the field that the Lord God had made. He said to the woman, "Did God actually say, 'You shall not eat of any tree in the garden'?" 2. And the woman said to the serpent, "We may eat of the fruit of the trees in the garden, 3. but God said, 'You shall not eat of the fruit of the tree that is in the midst of the garden, neither shall you touch it, lest you die.'" 4. But the serpent said to the woman, "You will not surely die. 5. For God knows that when you eat of it your eyes will be opened, and you will be like God, knowing good and evil." 6.So when the woman saw that the tree was good for food, and that it was a delight to the eyes, and that the tree was to be desired to make one wise, she took of its fruit an...
